Free the body and you free the spirit!
"There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man". 0
Benjamin Franklin

Since 1978 LIRHA (501(C)(3) has provided free horseback riding lessons to physically and emotionally challenged individuals. We are a non-profit organization. The program and Instructors are certified by NARHA.

We also have licensed physical therapists that work with the instructors and students during a class. Imagine lives denied the freedom that most of us enjoy: freedom from disabilities such as cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, spinal bifida, retardation, brain injury, autism, attention deficit, stroke, legally blind. Not only do LIRHA's students with such disabilities benefit physically from riding, but also the psychological rewards is enormous and self-esteem rises tremendously.

LIRHA thanks all who support our program, through donations and fundraisers. Without their support we could not offer free therapeutic horseback lessons! We lease the horses used for the program, pay insurance fees, purchase special tack and much more. We work outdoors so we hope that every season mother nature will be good to us, so that we can get every scheduled class in.

Volunteers are the backbone of the program and we are always looking for people to assist our students ranging from age six to adult. Our program runs in the spring April through June then we return again in the fall from September to middle of October. Anyone interested to volunteer or make a donation please call 516-783-3059.
