Q. What is the difference between LIRHA and other horse therapy groups on Long Island?

A. LIRHA is a non profit-tax exempt like the other groups but we are not a business, we do not charge for lessons on horseback, we do not charge the student for having a Physical Therapist.  We do not  file with Insurance Companies to get reimbursed.   Our program has run solely by fundraising and donations.  Our program is a horse therapy program, we do not do hippotherapy or driving. Our program and professional staff are Premier Accredited through NARHA. We have been around since 1978.  We accept students from age six to adult, all types of disabilities as per NARHA guidelines.

Q. How can we get involved?

A. L.I.R.H.A.'s volunteers are the backbone of the program.  If you would like to volunteer you can contact our volunteer coordinator at 516-455-4448 we have retiree's, college students, high school students , you can begin volunteering at age 15.  We have a training class before the program begins and do a refresher class every season.  Volunteers are always needed.  Also, volunteers are asked if they would like to be on a committee to help with fundraising.
